One lucky Nintendo player currently has access to Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp, despite its recent delay.
Although it was recently delayed indefinitely, a Nintendo player’s copy of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp unlocked early for them.
Last month, Nintendo announced that it would delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp indefinitely in response to the crisis in Ukraine, stating, “In light of recent world events, we have made the decision to delay Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was originally scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch on 08/04. Please stay tuned for updates on a new release date.”
Twitter user killetheth tweeted an image of what appears to be one of the first Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp tutorial screens, saying, “Finally I got to play Advance Wars, but only on my Switch Lite which had it preloaded before this happened!”
After being asked to record gameplay footage of a game by several Twitter users, killetheth responded by showing a quick video of the tutorial in action. It’s pretty clear that killetheth has a legit copy of the game.
As she mentioned in her first Tweet showing off the game, killetheth was able to access their copy of the game by preloading it onto their Switch Lite before it was delayed indefinitely and then never reconnecting it to the internet, which seems to have canceled the timer that Nintendo supposedly placed on it when it delayed the game.
Interestingly, killetheth confirmed that Blue Moon, the fictional army that was made to look like Russia, is still in the game, or at least is still in the preloaded version she has access to. Other studios have removed references to Russia from their games since the Ukraine crisis, so it’s unclear at this time if Nintendo will do the same, though it may not feel the need to consider. Blue Moon as a fictional representation of Russia.
